Artist Spotlight: Shag Rock

Shag Rock is an Australian indie-rock group with a captivating story that started back in 2011 but truly became "serious" in 2015, according to the band themselves. The group's name is inspired by a rock off North Stradbroke Island, a place of childhood memories for the band members.

Career Highlights:

  • In early 2015, Shag Rock signed with the independent label Airlock Records, which was founded by Powderfinger's Ian Haug.

  • They released their debut self-titled EP in April 2015, marking the beginning of their musical journey.

  • In 2016, Shag Rock released the catchy singles "Roadtrip" and "Sunbleached Girl" as a prelude to their debut studio album, "Barefoot," which dropped in February 2017.

  • In 2021, Tayla Young became a part of the group, adding her unique touch to their sound.

  • In July 2021, Shag Rock presented their second studio album, "Double Overhead," which delves into the exploration of mental health, aiming to encourage emotional openness and vulnerability.

  • "Double Overhead" earned a nomination for Queensland Album of the Year in 2022.

  • In July 2023, Shag Rock treated their fans to the release of "Zero G's," showcasing their continued creativity and evolution.
